July 19 Aliens in New England
This is an aside, if you will.
In our journeys through the north-easternmost part of the U.S., we began noticing the presence of an unfamiliar entity. At first, we passed it off as a harmless sighting that was simply foreign to our western eyes. But then, as we traveled into Massachusetts, the occurance became more frequent, and our sense of something unusual was heightened.
As we reached the outskirts of Boston, there was no more denying it. The stations were set up everywhere, often within walking distance of one another, and sometimes even within sight, just a block and a half intervals between. And then we noticed the citizens, ordinary, innocent Bostonians, clutching cups and bags emblazoned with the mark of this overpowering presence. Many, upon exiting the stations, walked as if in a trance, lifting the branded cups to their lips, eye-lids only half-open, feet shuffling along the pavement. Those just passing through the portals were drawn as if by an irresistable magnet.
Aliens had surely established their earthly presence. They had first set up shop perhaps in the heart of Boston shortly after the Tea Party, and expanded their ever-growing empire from there.
And they were disguised as Dunkin' Donuts.
It's true. The rounded sans-serif font blared at us from everywhere. The bright orange and glowing fuschia letters (a color combination that would never have been accepted by humans without the alien influence) screamed from every corner. And the innocent New Englanders simply walked by, going about their daily business, unknowing that they were already in the grips of extraterrestrial possession.
Even we, with our strong sense of recognition and Art Bell intelligence, were sucked in. Yes, we partook of the Dunkin' Donuts. In fact, we barely escaped alive. We are still fighting the urge daily, and we fear that it may be the orange and pink brain washing stations that ultimately drive us out of New England, fearing for our own lives.
So beware, should you choose to visit New England. Come armed with a strong sense of what's good for you, or both your health and your mind will be lost to the intruders. And for those of you living in the midst of this no-longer-subtle take-over, we offer this advice: Try to break free! Regain your minds! Turn away from the evil orange and pink ones!
After all, the donuts don't even taste that good...
