The Preparation

So we took a little longer than we planned. But we figured that if we took the few more hours (days, weeks, years it seemed!) to do it right, then the whole trip would go that much smoother. The truck got airbags and new shocks and alarm. Brant already had the camper, and it was pretty decked out, but in the weeks before departure he wired in three extra batteries so we could run our computers without the generator, and generally made the tiny space on the back of the pickup a good place to call home for the next 6+ months.

Then the trailer showed up. Beautiful but bare, we transformed the empty mobile space into our version of a toy palace. From insulating to painting, heating to shelving, we finally crossed off all the items on the punchlist. We're going to offer some tips for future road-trippers so you can learn from our mistakes...in the meantime, take a look at the metamorphasis!
