Glenwood Canyon, Glenwood Springs

By no means extreme, this trail nevertheless is worth the trek if you're in the Glenwood Springs area. Although technically called a bike path, the 16.2 miles of easy-sloping paved trail is shared with rollerbladers and pedestrians. The trail winds along the Colorado River, amidst incredible scenic canyon vistas. In some places the path almost jets out over the river, it follows the natural watercourse so closely.

The pavement is ideal for rollerbladers, and the incline is gentle enough to be easy going but consistent enough to be a great workout. There are a few spots on the trail where the ascent is steep for a few dozen yards. Although many spots are paralleled by I-70, the freeway noise is often drowned by the singing of the river.

Canyon Bikes is located at the bottom of the trail, and they offer a daily shuttle service to the top of the trail if you are only interested in the downhill experience. They'll cart you and your bike or blades to the east trailhead for $12. They also have bike rentals available.
