Kremmling - Colorado

We love dual-sport riding because you can explore new territory and arrive at beautiful vistas in a relatively short period of time. Trekking our way across the western states we stumbled upon a wonderful motorcycling area. Kremmling, Colorado, located on highway 40, about an hour drive north from Vail, is a peaceful place to settle in to some extreme sports. In addition to river rafting, mountain biking, and nearby snowboarding, Kremmling hosts many miles of dirt-bike and jeep trails. Craddled in a valley at an altitude of 7,000', the trails lead up into the neighboring hills on all sides. During the winter months most of the trails are impassible, but from late April through September, the weather and the riding is supreme.

Due to the limited amount of trees in the area, the vistas from atop the neighboring hills and mountains offer scenic vistas. In addition to the natural landscapes, Kremmling is known for its "extreme" population of big game. Talking with the locales, we learned that it is not unusual to spot antelope, elk, moose, bear, and even mountain lions in the local area.

The "whip cream and cherry" of our Kremmling stay was the Red Mountain RV Park. With very reasonable rates, tons of full hook-up sites, hot showers, a public laundry, and the most friendly hosts, the mornings and evenings spent not riding were spared no luxury. The campground is situated just northeast of Kremmling, and has expansive high desert views in every direction. The campground owner, Jeff, was more than helpful telling us about where we could ride and all the beautiful vistas - check in with him for the local scoop.

Note: as a bonus, there is a small motorcross track located about 1 mile east of the campground.
