Great Western OHV Trail - Utah ![]() We can't believe that every OHV owner around America doesn't know about this riding mecca. There are dozens of clearly marked entrances onto the Great Western OHV trails. Looking at a map of the area there are hundreds and hundreds of miles of trails. Our trek for the day took us on a 20 mile loop. The trail conditions covered the spectrum, from gravel, sand, hard pack and some slick-rock. ![]() Unlike some riding areas, where the riding is for the thrill of riding only, the vistas and unexpected lakes and reservoirs made for a more than scenic trip. The trails give way and cross unimproved dirt roads every 5 miles or so. This gives you the option of riding at a faster, less challenging level towards the higher altitudes (9500' in areas). We explored the terrain in late April, when the weather was in the mid-80's and the trails were all our own. ![]() We took off for our Great Western OHV trail adventure by the side of Hwy 24 in southern Utah (near the town of Teasdale). Again, there are numerous trailheads along much of Hwy 24 and Hwy 12. And as an added bonus, if you are into trout fishing, the numerous high-alpine lakes that we found in our adventures were teaming with moderately sized rainbow trout. |
