Indoor Skydiving

Flyaway - Las Vegas, NV

The Flyaway facilities, 1 block from The Vegas Strip.

If you are ever within a hundred miles of Las Vegas, make a point of getting to Flyaway Indoor Skydiving. Short of jumping from a plane, you cannot get closer to the freefall experience of skydiving. The concept: A huge electric fan in the floor of a 12' wide, 22' high tower, blows air upward at speeds up to 115 mph to float you effortlessly in the air. Two layers of intermeshed steel cables act as a trampoline as well as a barrier between the huge fan blades and your body.

Worth every penny.

It is $35 for a single flight and $55 for a double flight. When I first saw the prices I must admit that I thought they were a bit steep. Having now completed the experience I would jump on the opportunity to fly in the tunnel again at those prices. Considering most people drop $35 into a slot machine in Vegas and walk away with nothing 10 minutes later - paying $35 to hover in "thin air" for minutes at a time is well worth it!

A sport for all ages.

The whole experience takes about an hour and includes instruction on all aspects of indoor flight, outfitting you with your flight suit and helmet, and about 15 minutes in the vertical wind tunnel with your group of flyers. Training classes are scheduled on the hour and half hour and attendance is on a first come/first serve basis. Flyaway is located one block off the Las Vegas Strip at 200 Convention Center Drive (just down the street from the Stardust Casino).
Note: If you get a chance - stick around the observation deck (there are windows 360 degrees around the tower) and watch the instructors and pros fly - it is utterly amazing what some of the really good flyers can pull off. For more info call 877.545.8093 or www.FlyawayIndoorSkydiving.com
