Climbing
Fisher Towers, Castle Valley, UT
East of Moab on Highway 128 is an area called Castle Valley. In its midst are the Fisher Towers, grand spires of red sandstone rising from the desert floor. There is a great hiking trail that winds among the towers, through the canyons wrought with greenery, and it is indeed impressive to stand at the base of the natural castles and gaze up along their shafts as they reach for the sky. But perhaps it is more impressive still to stand atop the spire and look out over the valley, having achieved such heights by your own means of muscle, skill, and determination.

Some of the red rock spires rising in the background.
The largest of the towers, Titan, is a bohemoth. But clustered all around the entire area are challenges for the rock climber. This is definitely an advanced-only area, as the holds themselves may crumble as you search for purchase, and the Towers are remote and far from servicesMoab is the closest place, 25 miles away. But if you have the skills and the support team, the sense of accomplishment must be unreal.
