Air Base - Corpus Christi ![]() Corpus Christi is unique for sailing because you have so many different conditions within a small area. Within 10 minutes you can drive from smooth speed sailing along Ocean Dr. to 4' - 6' surfsailing on Padre Island. Ocean Blvd, near the Naval Air Station, is a premier flat water sailing site. The sandy bottom stays a fairly constant 3'-4' out hundreds of feet from the beach making learning to waterstart easier. The wind blows side/sideoff, which makes the chop almost non-existent. The closer you stay to the beach, the less chop there is (inside jibes are carved in water that resembles a mirror). ![]() The launch is over small concrete rip-rap, the only draw-back to this site. The beach is a mixture of sand, small rocks, and shells. With about 4 miles of beach accessible from Ocean Blvd. north of the Coast Guard Station, you can pick a sailing site for just you and your friends. There is tons of parking directly off Ocean Blvd for larger vehicles and trailers. Check out Cline St. Sailboards (ask for Oliver) for any equipment needs (about 5 miles away down Hwy 358). Have fun & sail safe. Directions: Traveling down Hwy 358 SE towards Padre Island take the Ennis Joslin exit. Travel on Ennis Joslin Rd. east towards the bay for 3.5 miles. You will run into Ocean Dr. and a Circle K on the right hand corner. Take a right onto Ocean Dr. Drive on Ocean Dr. for 2-3 miles and pick a spot on the east side of the road that looks good for launching. |
