Corpus Christi Beach - Corpus Christi ![]() CC Beach, just down the coast from Oleander Park is not sailed as often. The prevailing side/onshore wind is probably what keeps the crowds away from this spot. The scenery is dramatic, with the USS Lexington, a retired air craft carrier just a couple reachs down the beach. The water temp. is in the 70's to 80's year round and the launch is a long stretch of sandy beach. The water depth is fairly shallow for a ways out which makes for semi-breaking chop (rolling white water about 6" to 1' high) that is fun to carve on and jump. If you follow the beach to it's end, you will find an RV park where windsurfing is accessible from right in front of your full hook-up campsite. The wind, as in all of the Corpus Christi area, is best during the spring and fall when sailing on a 4.5 to 5.5 is the norm. The locals assure us that it blows year round, just not as consistently. Enjoy. ![]() Directions: Take US 181 (SR 35) northeast from I-37 in Corpus Christi. Exit 1/2 mile or so after crossing bridge onto Beach Ave. Take Beach Ave. to the bay and drive along Gulfbreeze Blvd. until you find a suitable section of beach. The RV park is at the northeast end of the island before US 181 (SR 35) cross the next bridge to Portland. |
