Oleander Park - Corpus Christi

Oleander Park (Cole Park) is one of the most popular sailing sites in the Corpus Christi area. The wind is sideshore, the water temp is in the high 70's, and the chop is medium sized (larger further out in the bay). The launch is from a good sized sandy beach, and the sandy bottom continues fairly shallow for a distance out from the land. There is a huge grassy rigging area on the bluff between the parking lot and the beach. On a weekend it is not uncommon to see 15 or more sailors launching from this site. Oleander Park is also the site for the U.S. Open of windsurfing held in Corpus Christi every year. The wind, as in all of the Corpus Christi area, is best during the spring and fall when sailing on a 4.5 to 5.5 is the norm. The locals assure us that it blows year round, just not as consistently. Warm water and year round wind - heaven!
